Appeal to businesses to carry out fire risk assessment following fire at Spencer Industrial Estate
PostedThe lead for Business Fire Safety for Wrexham and Flintshire at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is appealing to all businesses to ensure they carry out a fire risk assessment and review it regularly.
This follows on from a large commercial fire which occurred on the Spencer Industrial Estate, Buckley on Tuesday evening. The fire affected a number of businesses and the cause is still under investigation.
Neil Upton, Compliance Manager for Wrexham and Flintshire at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, gives the following advice to business owners and operators:
“To protect your business from the devastating effects of fire please ensure that you carry out a Fire Risk Assessment and review it regularly.
“This will help you to identify sources of ignition and sources of fuel which could start a fire.
“You should also understand how a fire will be detected and how you, your customers and your staff will leave the building.
“Ensure all electrics within your business premises are checked by a competent person and electrical appliances and machinery are also regularly checked and maintained.
“The arrangements that are in place for detecting fire and raising the alarm should be tested and inspected to confirm that they are in full working order and staff need to know exactly what to do in the event of fire.”
