An elderly man has died following a house fire in Holt.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a report of the fire at a property in Castle Mews, Holt, Wrexham at 21.07hrs this evening (Tuesday 12th November).

Two appliances from Wrexham were mobilised to the incident. Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 80s, was found inside the property by firefighters.

An elderly woman made it out of the property after being alerted by a working smoke alarm. She was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The cause of the fire will be the subject of a joint investigation by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police.
