VIP invite for older persons to ‘come and have a cuppa on us’
PostedNorth Wales Fire and Rescue Service is delighted to be hosting a special event for older persons on Thursday 1st of October, 2015 at Rhyl Community Fire Station – and is issuing a VIP invite to ‘come and have a cuppa on us’ and help spread the word about fire safety.
This is a new initiative aimed specifically at older people who are potentially a particularly vulnerable audience – to help raise awareness of fire safety and provide advice on how to ensure their own personal safety as well as the safety of their households.
The day’s programme of events will begin at Rhyl Community Fire Station at 9:30am and is open to all older members of the public.
Attendees will be welcomed with a cup of tea and biscuits, and will have the opportunity to speak to firefighters and support staff about their home fire safety.
A number of important fire safety messages will be discussed whilst having a cuppa - such as the various provisions supplied by the fire and rescue service specifically for older people who may be visually or hearing impaired, which as general members of the public they may be not already be aware of.
Following the home fire safety discussions the VIP visitors will be escorted around the facility to be given a glimpse of life inside a full time fire station. The variety of appliances held at Rhyl will be on display together with the facilities and equipment used and an opportunity to meet the firefighters themselves.
Gwyn Jones, Community Safety Manager for Conwy and Denbighshire said, “We are looking forward to welcoming older generations to Rhyl Fire Station for a day out with us. We work very hard in ensuring that all members of the public from across all age groups receive the vital fire safety information they need.
“This will be the first time we’ve held such an event at a fire station, and it will be great to get to meet the visitors on a less formal basis over a cup of tea.
“We’ll also be making sure that there will be plenty of ‘special edition’ boxes of teabags for everyone to take home with them - so they can continue to spread the fire safety message, and the support we provide to their friends and families over a cup of tea.”
