Woman dies in fire at property in Penrhyndeudraeth
PostedA woman has died following a fire in Penrhyndeudraeth.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a report of a fire at a property in Castle Street at 22.25hrs on Thursday 20th March.
Crews from Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Pwllheli and Harlech were mobilised and on arrival were confronted with a well developed fire involving an upstairs flat above a chemist shop.
Four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were deployed in tackling the fire.
A female casualty believed to be in her 80s was located at the property by firefighters and was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died shortly afterwards.
A man in his 80s had made his own way out of the property before the arrival of firefighters.
A joint investigation by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police is now underway.
North Wales Police have closed the A487 as a result of the incident and diversions are in place.
