Mother and daughter rescued from fire in Llandudno
PostedA mother and daughter are safe and well this morning (Friday 27th July) thanks to their working smoke alarm and the life saving advice provided by staff at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire officers are urging residents to ensure they have smoke detectors fitted after the two women were woken by their alarm and were safely rescued from their property by firefighters in the early hours of this morning.
Operators in the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service control room took the 999 call from the 25 year old daughter at 04.21hrs this morning and kept the caller on the line whilst providing vital advice to the women over the phone.
In the meantime, two fire appliances from Llandudno and one from Conwy were mobilised to the property onBridge Road, Llandudno.
Darren Jones from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We had provided a home fire safety check at the property and the smoke alarm alerted the women to the fire. Without the alarm and the fact the occupiers had heeded our advice so well, this could have been a much more serious incident.
"Control operators provided advice over the phone which bought valuable time for firefighters to attend the property, extinguish the fire and rescue the two women.
"The women had been confronted by a fire at their front door which prevented their escape from the property. They remained upstairs and were advised to get to a room at the rear of the building, close the door and place a blanket at the foot of the door to prevent smoke from entering the room.
"Crews arrived and gained access to the window where the women were to ensure they were safe and had fresh air to breath, whilst firefighters entered through the kitchen door to extinguish the fire using a carbon dioxide extinguisher and breathing apparatus and were then able to rescue the women by the main front door."
Both women received a precautionary check by paramedics at the scene.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation but appears to be electrical.
The damage to the property was minimal with light smoke damage throughout.
