Case Study: Karina

“Hi! I’m Karina – originally from Poland, but now I live in North Wales and joined the Service as a Full-time Firefighter just over a year ago.
“I’m really loving being a Firefighter, and I’m so glad I joined.
“I’ve always been interested in the fire and rescue service, but I’d been brought up to believe that only men could be firefighters.
“Then I saw a flyer from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service featuring a female Firefighter, and realised – maybe I could do that!
“I attended one of the Service’s experience days and met some of the staff and found out more about what would be expected within the role, fitness levels and so on.
“I realised that yes, I could do that! I put in an application once the full-time firefighter recruitment window opened, and I was so happy when I was appointed in post.
“It feels great to help the community and solve problems on a daily basis.
“Teamwork is a really big part of the job - everyone has different skills, but when you come together you create something amazing.
“I’d say to anyone thinking of a career as a Firefighter – don’t just think about it any longer, just come and try!”
